Starmer: We maintain a special relationship with Albania, committed to tackling issues

TIRANA, May 15 /ATA/ The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, stated during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama that the relationship with Albania is unique, and his visit to Tirana represents a clear statement of intent regarding how the British government views this partnership.

“The fact that I am the first British Prime Minister to undertake this bilateral visit should also be seen as a statement of intent regarding how we view Albania and Prime Minister Rama, as well as the very character, nature, and strength of our relationship. I do not wish to comment on previous prime ministers, but my approach is not one of assertive diplomacy. Instead, it is a hands-on one about hard work and tackling problems as they arise,” he emphasized when asked about his predecessors’ stance on Albanian migrants and some instances when distinctions were not always made between those who worked and paid taxes and a small minority involved in criminal activity.

He emphasized that his priority is not to speak loudly about problems but to “roll up his sleeves” and actively work on concrete solutions. According to him, this approach has turned out to be effective.

“In recent months and years, we have clearly demonstrated our commitment through close collaboration between our law enforcement agencies, working together on sensitive cross-border matters. Furthermore, today we will see firsthand the partnership between our military forces, a cooperation in which we both take great pride,” stated the British Prime Minister.
