TIRANA, April 29 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, participated in the Congress of the European People’s Party in Valencia, Spain.
During his address, Berisha expressed gratitude to EPP President Manfred Weber for endorsing the Democratic Party of Albania with a significant resolution backing its rightful causes.
Berisha also thanked the president of the IDU, Stephen Harper, and the president of the CDI, Andrés Pastrana, for the similar support they have shown toward the Democratic Party and its causes.
He also extended his thanks to “friends from the CDU, Elmar Brok, Peter Beyer, Doris Pack, and friends from Forza Italia in Italy, such as Battilocchio, Erika Mazzetti, and others, who have stood by us during some difficult days.”
Commenting on the country’s state of play, Berisha said that “Albania has become the first and only narco-state in Europe, where all branches of govt. are controlled by a single person. According to international observers, a mafia-style vote-buying system and widespread intimidation tactics have allowed him to dominate the citizens’ will, reducing elections to nothing more than a facade.”
Berisha emphasized that, “According to Eurostat, from 2014 to 2023, 1,099,000 Albanians have emigrated to the Schengen area. As a result, according to the UN, Albania now has the lowest birth rate index in the world. Furthermore, the country is one of the main exporters of crime in Europe.”
However, he continued, “In a dictatorship, the only choice is not to give up, but to vehemently fight to bring it down. With your support, dear friends, I assure you that the Democratic Party of Albania, which toppled the most Stalinist dictatorship in Europe 32 years ago, will also overthrow the first and only narcotic dictatorship in Europe, that of Edi Rama.”
