Berisha with students of medicine: Albania has 4 times less doctors than EU average

TIRANA, April 25 /ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha held today a conversation with students of medicine in context of an electoral meeting for the Parliamentary elections of May 11. Berisha said that the current state of the healthcare system has deteriorated and can be compared with the 1960s.

“Today, we have 4 times less doctors than the EU average. In 2013, we had one doctor for 600 inhabitants; today we have one doctor for 1,100 inhabitants. The EU has one doctor for 300-350 inhabitants. Everything reminds me of the 1960s, when the first pediatricians began to appear in different districts because there were no pediatricians. Healthcare has taken the most severe blows in the last 4 years. The exodus of doctors has become massive,” Berisha said.

Berisha emphasized that the DP’s project for a Great Albania, “envisages a complete transformation of education and healthcare system.”

“First of all, there is no journey to Europe with the lowest standards, with standards of 65 years ago, of the number of doctors for the population”, said Berisha.

Berisha also took the opportunity to point at some facts during Covid time.

“500 million euros was the money of a terrible abuse that they did with the Covid money”.

“And we reached the top of the world in terms of mortality from Covid. Why? Not because we were the hardest-hit country, nor because we were the poorest country. But, because they did not admit the sick to the hospital. They kept hospitalization into the level of 500 beds. Kosovo has a smaller population, but had 1200 beds. And North Macedonia had 1300 beds”, said Berisha. /j.p/p.s./
