TIRANA, April 16 /ATA/ Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected today the construction site of Elbasan – Lekaj highway, part of Corridor VIII, a category A highway, with a total length of 40.7 kilometers.

The road segment that starts from the village of Bradashesh (Elbasan), passes through Peqin and ends in Rrogozhina, is expected to be completed next spring. Minister Balluku said that work is going ahead at a good pace.

According to Balluku, “The design speed is 140 km/hour. Meanwhile, the speed of movement along this road will be 130 km/hour, according to the Road Code. So, it is the highest speed parameter built, so far”.

The minister said that, “We have foreseen that after completion of the works on the road, it will be placed under monitoring of the National Traffic Monitoring Center”.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that, “This is a massive infrastructure program that is becoming a reality thanks to the new position that Albania has gained within the Western Balkans Investment Fund and thanks to the significant increase in the quality of projects”.

Rama added that, “At present, the financial support of EU programs for Albania consists of 90% soft loans. Following entry into EU, we receive something more than 1 billion every year and what is most important, 90% is a grant and not a loan.” /r.e/a.f/p.s./
