TIRANA, April 10 /ATA/ Prime Minister, also the SP chairman, Edi Rama said during a meeting in Durres with young people at the presentation of the new team for EU accession 2030 that Albania is at a pivotal moment for starting EU negotiations.
Prime Minister Rama reiterated the importance of Albania’s integration into the European family, especially for a country that has faced discrimination over the years and decades.
“For us, being in the EU marks the end of a very long history, spanning centuries, during which we have never been able to choose where we want to be and have always suffered the decisions and oppressive pressures of others, larger than us. For an entire century, we have transitioned from an empire to a monarchy, to a dictatorship, and it has never been within our power to choose, while from the very beginning, those who fought for Albania wanted it to be in Europe and to belong to the West. As Naim Frashëri once said: ‘The sun for us rises where it sets,'” said Rama.
In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted that Albania has not been where it should have been due to the numerous struggles and hardships endured by our parents and grandparents. However, he stated that this is the moment to see the first free choice of the Albanian people since the fall of communism come to fruition, when they chanted: “We want Albania like all of Europe.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that Albania’s EU path depends on the independence of its institutions, particularly the judiciary, which has been a key priority for him and the socialist government.
