TIRANA, March 21/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, also chairman of the Socialist Party, held a meeting today with the candidates of Durrës region running for the Socialist Party in the Parliamentary elections of May 11.
Being among socialist supporters and the candidates for the 3 municipalities of the region, Rama emphasized that these elections are important for the country and geopolitics.
“Albania and Montenegro will be in the EU for geopolitical reasons. On the other hand, under the current circumstances, EU membership becomes an existential issue of Albania’s security and defense. Some people say that this is idle talk, that you want another term in office and create all kinds of stories. I say, Montenegro opened negotiations in 2012, we have officially opened them only a year after; we spent 1 year under screening and diagnosing the entire state organism for all the relevant matters. Today, we are side by side with Montenegro, the two countries that the EU considers as the most likely to join the EU. Serbia started in 2014, and today it is behind us. When we took office we were the last cog in the wheel. North Macedonia became a candidate country to join the EU in 2005 and has not yet opened the negotiations. These facts are to show people that this is not a matter an idle talk,” Rama said.
“In these upcoming elections, we appreciate that the decision-making of the Albanian people will have a significant impact on Albania’s European destiny, because these elections coincide with an extremely historical moment when we are faced with a real and current opportunity to become part of the EU,” Rama said. /a.f/p.s./
