TIRANA, March 18 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party (DP) lawmaker Jorida Tabaku stated Tuesday that the May 11 parliamentary elections will shape Albania and its future, expressing confidence that the opposition’s alternative for a more open economy, higher wages and pensions will prevail through participation of the Albanian expats for the first time in the polls.
In a message on the social media, the opposition MP highlighted Albanian diaspora involvement in the upcoming May 11 elections.
According to Tabaku, organized diaspora groups in Italy, Greece, the United States of America and in the United Kingdom are working extensively to support the main opposition DP and make change happen in Albania.
“I have had dozens of meeting with Albanian expats, who all share same concern over the country’s ruined economy, low pensions and lack of merit-based system,” Tabaku said in her message.
According to her, most of the Albanian citizens who have left the country “belong to the middle class and have been forced to migrate because of a system that has captured the economy and prevents them from making progress.”
She claimed that the Albanian expats are committed to backing the DP alternative for more open economy, higher pensions, a minimum living wage of 200 euros, as well as five-year tax exemption period for young entrepreneurs.
