TIRANA, March 13 / ATA/ The European Union Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos, stated today that Albania needs to stay its course on the implementation of reforms.
In the joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Commissioner Kos emphasized that “we all know that the focus must be on the implementation of the reforms that have been approved, but also on accelerating the confirmation of all other reforms, particularly the justice reform, which I personally support as it is the cornerstone of the European integration process.”
“The progress on the fundamentals cluster is very important because negotiations were opened with that, and will be closed with that. Therefore, it will also determine the momentum of the negotiations,” said Kos.
“We both,” Kos continued, “are not just passionate about Europe, but we are also focused and goal-oriented, which means that we know what we need to achieve in order to deliver results.”
“We will deliver these results even if the Albanian citizens themselves fully support all the work we are doing. In my opinion, it is very important that the EU accession process is a project for all of Albanian society. So, it’s not just about what you, the government, are doing, or what the Parliament is doing. Civil society, various NGOs, every city, village, and region must be involved, and citizens must understand why this process is important and why Albania will become a member state,” emphasized Kos.
The EU Enlargement Commissioner said, “This is primarily your responsibility.”
“My role and commitment are to take action and make sure that Albania gains greater recognition within the EU member states. To achieve this, we will launch a communication campaign to demonstrate not only why Albania will become an EU member state, but also the added value it will bring to the European Union once you join our family,” Kos stated.
“In this regard, we will soon conduct a survey on the progress of enlargement, the perception of enlargement in Albania, and based on the findings, we will build a campaign. I hope that as many European journalists as possible will come to Albania to see it up close, to witness what is happening here in Albania,” said Kos.
