Rama: AI-driven alignment of legislation with EU speeds up process

TIRANA, March 11 /ATA/-Maela Marini/ Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the benefits that Albania will gain from using artificial intelligence in the negotiation process with the European Union.

The Prime Minister attended the event organized as part of the Franco-Albanian Week for Artificial Intelligence, Green AI, where he emphasized that Albania has made significant progress in the European integration process and aims to become a member within this decade.

The Prime Minister stated, ‘We have an ambitious plan at hand to finish the negotiations by 2027, an exceptional window of opportunity that we must do everything possible not to miss.'”

In this regard, he highlighted the use of artificial intelligence, through which the process is moving at an entirely different pace.

Rama stated, ‘Transposing the EU legal corpus, even in a mechanical way, into the national legislative framework would require an army of translators, drafters, legal writers, and many other individuals.'”

The Prime Minister reminded that for Croatia, which had an impressive track record to become an EU member, it took 7 years.

“We aim to accelerate the process. We are developing a model that not only transposes in real-time but also ensures alignment with our legislation. Additionally, it enables those responsible for preparing matters for the government and parliament to spot similarities or discrepancies between what we have here and what comes from the EU,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this model is being implemented at the Ministry of Justice, where they are sifting through vast amounts of legislation to identify any overlaps.

“It’s not unusual for something you’re entitled to under one law to be denied because another law says otherwise. This is a gargantuan task being accomplished through artificial intelligence,” said Rama. /j.p/sm/
