PM Rama: Albania working with Microsoft to build AI-powered public procurement system

TIRANA, March 11 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Tuesday that Albania is working with Microsoft to become a European pioneer and ensure that 95% of the public procurement system to be AI-powered by 2026.

Addressing at the first Franco-Albanian Week event on the Artificial Intelligence, Green AI, the government head noted that digitization of the public procurement system would totally eliminate human contact in almost all procurement stages and enhance transparency and efficiency.

PM Rama recalled that Albania ranked bottom for the quality and integrity of the public procurement procedures when his Socialist government took office around 12 years ago.

“However, according to the latest ranking by SIGMA, Albania ranked first in the region with 80 points out of 100 for the quality and integrity of the public procurement procedures,” Rama said.

He said that the partnership with Microsoft was part of a broader AI-driven modernization of governance project.

“But we are more ambitious than that. We’re working with Microsoft to build the first 360-degree AI procurement model in Europe, without human contact in around 95% of the procurement processes,” Rama said, adding that the model is expected to become fully operational by the end of next year.

“Then, no EU Mediterranean country can accuse us of lacking integrity, because we can challenge them as we we’ll set the standard,” the government head added.
