TIRANA, February 24/ATA/ “Tirana Walk 2021” is the newest project for the capital of the future focused on the ex-Block neighborhood, a term that is commonly used to identify the former block of residences of the former communist leaders.
The project gives priority to walking, cycling, and public transport over car use. This approach reduces traffic congestion and pollution while promoting healthier lifestyles.
The project was presented today in the premises of Villa No 31. Attending was Prime Minister Edi Rama. This is a project of cooperation of the Municipality of Tirana with the “WALK 21” global network which promotes walking activity and supports the right of citizens to walk in a safe and welcoming environment.
More specifically, the streets will be freed from the row of cars parked while the sidewalk space will get increased, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for pedestrians. The expansion of the sidewalks will facilitate movement, improve access for everyone and create opportunities for more public spaces.
While “Ismail Qemali” Street, being a main road in this neighborhood, will have a bicycle lane and only one parking row. Due to its significance, parking is foreseen on only one side of the street, maintaining a balance between vehicle access and priority for pedestrians and cyclists.
Also, there will be created safe squares in front of educational institutions, which will enable easier and safer access for children, reducing traffic risks and creating a more suitable environment for parents and students. /m.m/j.p/p.s./
