Education Minister: Smart labs to help students integrate digital skills with other subjects

TIRANA, Feb 24 /ATA/ – The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu visited the Gustav Mayer nine-year school in Tirana on Monday to inspect the latest investment on installation of two smart labs as part of Albanian government’s program on installation of smart labs in schools across the country in the next two years, based on a unified model designed to build a new and contemporary educational infrastructure in Albania.

In her remarks during the visit, Education Minister emphasized importance of integrating digital literacy and skills with other subjects taught in school.

She hailed the smart labs programme as a significant achievement for Albania’s education system, saying that developing digital and IT skills would help students to gain more knowledge on other subjects and disciplines.

“Digital skills and information technology will help students build competence in foreign languages, science and social subjects,” Manastirliu said.

More than 340 new smart labs have been already installed in various schools across the country, currently helping more than 35 000 schoolchildren and students to enhance their digital skills, while the initiative is set to further expand to a total of 985 smart ICT labs. Overall, more than 130,000 students will benefit from the newly implemented labs.

The initiative is designed to improve education quality through the use of technology and enhance computer skills of the younger generations.

Albania has introduced ICT in elementary schools, with hands-on curricula taught in smart labs.
