Rama: 2014 reform produced higher pensions

TIRANA, February 5/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted today the need for a long-term vision and a sustainable plan for the pension reform so that to avoid the unfortunate consequences.

During an international conference on “Reforming Pension System” in Albania, Rama highlighted the pension reform undertaken in 2014 and the situation of the pension scheme before that year.

“Today, of course, we are in absolutely different conditions and we certainly feel it, understand it and at the same time take responsibility for the insistent request of pensioners to participate more significantly in the distribution of the fruits of the reforms and the overall growth of the economy,” said Rama.

“On the other hand, we are aware that it would be fatal if at this point we were to act without a long-term vision and without a sustainable long-term plan, because we would cause the same damage and consequences very similar to those caused by the actions that actually put us in front of a completely incomprehensible, absurd and dangerous pension system when we launched the 2014 reform”, Rama added.

The prime minister recalled that the 2014 reform was a process similar to the one being carried out today, involving as many actors as possible, listening to as many experiences as possible, realizing as many scenarios as possible and cooperating closely with the main expert that the World Bank made available to us. /af/p.s./
