Minister: Long-term partnership with French companies on defense industry

TIRANA, Feb 3 /ATA/ – Defense Minister Pirro Vengu hosted Monday a French Defense Ministry delegation headed by Brigadier General Emeric Wininger, Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America at DGA.

The meeting focused on ways of cooperation in view of developing Albanian defense industry, as well as long-term partnership with French companies to boost defense capacities, modernize Armed Forces and strengthen security in the region.

In a post on the social media, Defense Minister stated that international cooperation is key to sustainable and innovative development of defense sector.

Albanian government has announced plans to revitalize the country’s dormant defense industry.

Rebuilding the country’s military industry will require an integrated and coordinated approach to address not only technological and operational aspects, but also legal, financial, economic, social and environmental issues.

This process aims to promote innovation and technological development in defense industry through a close cooperation with the private sector, as Albania is seeking to strengthen its strategic position in the region, becoming a more important defense and security player, in full compliance with the North Atlantic Alliance goals.

The government aims to revive the weapon production plants by partnering with foreign investors through public-private ventures.
