TIRANA, February 3/ATA/ The political leader of the Socialist Party for the Diaspora is looking for cooperation with the opposition on changes to the Electoral Code related to the vote of Albanian nationals living abroad, who will participate for the first time in the Parliamentary elections to be held on May 11.
During a television interview, Balla said that they are already in the middle of the registration process while there are two elements that need to be changed and that are not raised by the Socialist Party, but by the Central Election Commission and by Albanians living abroad.
The first element, according to Balla, has to do with the fund that the government has allocated to the CEC to pay the postage for sending and return of the ballot paper of an Albanian citizen living abroad.
“Now, we are at the point when we need to change the law. Does the opposition say that it will win? Then, come on, let’s join to vote”, said Balla.
Regarding the second element, Balla said that the CEC has requested an extension of up to 60 days of the candidate registration deadline to allow more time for sending and returning ballots.
“CEC says that the political parties should have their candidates ready, why not extend the candidate registration deadline to 60 days. This does not affect the process”, stated Balla.
Regarding the conditions that the DP has attached for the approval of the amendments, Balla said that in the worst case, an alternative solution will be found to pay for the postage for the ballot paper. /j.p/p.s./
