TIRANA, January 30 /ATA/ The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has reacted to the suspension of funds by the US administration following President Donald Trump’s executive order temporarily suspending all U.S. foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending reviews to determine whether they are aligned with his policy goals.
“We have been informed of the Executive Order of the United States Government to suspend international assistance programs,” SPAK wrote in its reaction.
“SPAK is an independent institution, which relies entirely on the state budget. Law No 115 dated 2024 “On the Management of the Budgetary System of the Republic of Albania” also provides for the approved budget for the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime for 2025,” SPAK underlined.
“The Special Prosecutor’s Office and the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), since their establishment, have had the support of international partners, including the United States of America, who have made their contribution through missions: OPDAT, ICITAP, DEA, FBI”, SPAK emphasize further on.
According to SPAK, the US support is extremely important for strengthening the work of SPAK and consists mainly of training, study visits, various technical equipment and the case management system. /j.p/p.s./
