TIRANA, Jan 29 /ATA/ – Albania’s Special Prosecution against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK) revealed Wednesday a series of measures as part of a strategy aimed at preventing fraud in the May 11 parliamentary elections and ensuring Albania’s electoral system remains free of illegal influence.
SPAK will establish a central taskforce and deploy a team of prosecutors to carry out investigative actions in a bid to prevent election fraud.
The central structure will be headed by the SPAK Chief and will include prosecutors, National Bureau of Investigation officers, financial investigators, experts and administrative support staff in 12 districts and 61 municipalities across Albania.
Teams of prosecutors will focus on preventing and investigating criminal offenses related to the use of public administration, state infrastructure, and the involvement of criminal groups in the electoral process.
SPAK will cooperate with Prosecutor’s General Office, the State Police and the State Election Commissioner to exchange real-time data and information.
To encourage public reporting, an online platform and an emergency hotline will be introduced. However, formal complaints will only be accepted in writing and must follow legal procedures. Prosecutors will be required to assess each case and inform complainants of their decisions.
The initiative aims to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process by addressing vote manipulation and the improper use of public resources, reinforcing efforts to ensure free and fair elections
Special Prosecution Structure urged citizens, private and public institutions, civil society, the media and the public to actively contribute to the process and election transparency, saying any documented and evidence-based complaints are essential to detect, prevent and prosecute any electoral offence.
