Holy Liturgy services held in honour of the late Archbishop of Albania,  Anastasios Yanulatos

TIRANA, Jan 26 /ATA/ – Memorial services were held in honour of Anastasios Yanulatos, the Archbishop of Albania, at the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedrals in Korça, Gjirokastra and Durrës on Sunday morning, one day after the Autocephalous Orthodox Church leader passed away at the age of 95.

Dozens of believers prayed and lit candles for the repose of Archbishop Anastasios Yanulatos’s soul.

The revered clergyman took his final breath on Saturday morning in Athens’ Evangelismos Hospital, following weeks of intensive care since January 3.

His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios was a towering figure in the revival of the Orthodox Church in the country, as he was dedicated to rebuilding the church from the ruins left by Albania’s atheist regime.

The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania has declared a five-day mourning period, from January 25 to January 29, 2025, in honor of the late Archbishop.

The body of Archbishop Anastasios will arrive at the Cathedral of the “Resurrection of Christ” in Tirana on Tuesday, January 28, at 4:00 p.m. Tributes will follow that afternoon and continue throughout the next day, Wednesday, January 29.

The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m., immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

Senior representatives and patriarchs from Orthodox churches around the world are expected to participate.
