TIRANA, Jan 22 /ATA/ – The Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, stated Wednesday that a range of investments in energy projects are designed to turn Albania into a regional energy leader and net electricity exporter by 2030.
At a meeting with specialists and officials of the Power Distribution System operator, Balluku highlighted the benefits of the planned subsea interconnection line as part of an earlier agreement with Italy and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to Balluku, the energy subsea interconnection project will elevate Albania’s role in energy transmission while strengthening regional connectivity.
She said that Albania is one of the best connected countries in terms of interconnection with Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, and the new interconnection line being built with North Macedonia.
“The subsea interconnection project will take Albania to a whole new level in terms of energy transmission,” the Deputy PM Balluku stated.
The Energy and Infrastructure Minister also highlighted the country’s favorable geographic and geopolitical position.
“This interconnection line strengthens Albania’s energy position, supporting renewable energy development, diversifying sources, and enabling us to become a net exporter by 2030,” Balluku said.
Last week, Albania, Italy and UAE signed an accord to build a subsea interconnection for renewable energy across the Adriatic Sea and invest in green electricity production in Albania.
The deal will help Albania further boost its capacities as a key leader in the region, relying 100% on renewable sources for its electricity production.
