Koçiu: Over 87,000 children benefited from national vision screening program in schools

TIRANA, Jan 14 /ATA/ Over 87,000 children have participated in the national vision screening program in schools. Minister of Health and Social Protection announced the results today, noting that the program has been successfully integrated into schools nationwide, with 9,711 students being referred to specialist doctors for further evaluation of detected issues.

“Maintaining a strong focus on children’s health, we will continue to support the National Vision Screening Program in 2025, offering screenings and early interventions for students in schools,” stated Minister Koçiu.

In April 2022, the government approved the National Program for Children’s Vision Care, a program that ensures vision care for children, from newborns to those up to 14 years old.

Through this program, an ophthalmologic/optometric assessment is provided based on protocols approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, along with the creation of a national registry for children’s vision problems.

This program aims to promptly detect all vision issues in children, allowing for early intervention and addressing elements related to the swift correction of vision problems, including serious conditions that could lead to blindness.

This program focuses on prevention and education by providing new socio-health services within educational institutions. /j.p/sm/
