TIRANA, January 7 /ATA/ Beginning from January 1, the cigarette smokers are paying more due to the increase in excise duty on this product. The government has undertaken this policy of excise increase so that to reduce cigarette consumption.
At retail outlets, the price for each packet of cigarettes has been increased by a minimum of 10 lekë.
Until December 31, 2024, the excise duty on cigarettes or cigars containing tobacco was 7250 lekë / 1000 cigarettes. From January 1 of the current year, the excise duty on cigarettes or cigars containing tobacco is 7500 lekë / 1000 cigarettes.
The amendments “On Excise” approved by the government established a new schedule for increasing the excise duty level on tobacco and its by-products for the period 2022-2026, with the aim of aligning it with the excise duty level applied in the EU, also aiming at a unification of the excise duty level between tobacco and its by-products. /a.f/p.s./
