TIRANA, Jan 6 /ATA/ In a press conference on Monday, the DP chairman, Sali Berisha, pledged to reduce oil taxes by half once the DP takes office.
Berisha said that every Albanian citizen who buys a liter of oil “is charged 1 euro and 13 cents by the government in an extraordinarily unjust way, a situation that does not occur in any country around the world.”
Berisha went on saying that “the skyrocketing prices of oil also come down to the government’s fuel smuggling.”
“Albania in 2013, with 480,000 vehicles, cleared 700,000 tons of oil through customs. Today, Albania, with twice as many vehicles, clears 630,000 tons of oil,” said Berisha.
Berisha promised that once the DP takes office, the prices will be within a 10 percent margin, plus or minus, compared to North Macedonia and Kosovo.
“Kosovo mainly sources its oil from Durres. The oil is transported to Pristina and sold for 40% less. This outrageous theft from the Albanian people will be put to rest,” said Berisha.
“This move will be part of the 100-day plan, through which we aim to show the Albanian people that their income is being redistributed more equitably and that they will be the main beneficiaries,” said Berisha.
