TIRANA, Jan 4 /ATA/ “Sali Berisha, the Democratic Party Chairman, describes the tax on the Kashar-Thumanë road as an act of animosity.”
Berisha told a press conference that the imposition of a toll for 20 km road is discriminatory.
“The main concern I want to bring to attention is the imposition of a racist and discriminatory toll on the 20-kilometer road from Limuthi Bridge to Thumanë.”
Berisha stated, “This toll, one of the highest fees in Europe and the world when considering the 20-kilometer section, is a burden on the poorest residents of Albania and Europe.”
According to him, “I must clarify here that the income per capita in the northern districts is about twice as low as the income per capita in the central and southern districts of Albania.”
The introduction of a 4.2 euro round-trip toll for 20 kilometer road is an act of national animosity and unconstitutional discrimination, as no similar toll is applied on other category A highways, such as those connecting Vlorë to Fier, Elbasan to Tirana, and so on.
“Therefore, the claim that it is a category A road is a shameful deceit,” said Berisha.
“A category A road is the one from the beginning of the Fier bypass to Vlorë, from Farka to Elbasan, and there is no toll for the residents of these areas, who have almost twice the income compared to the residents of Kukës, Tropoja, Has, Puka, and other regions.”
Berisha said that the Democratic Party (DP) will remove all tolls on roads in Albania.
“We will annul all tenders for the Milot-Fier road segments. This toll puts a heavy burden on the citizens’ budget,” Berisha stated.
