TIRANA, Dec 30 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama reaffirmed Albania’s one-year TikTok ban on Monday, underlining that over 90% of parents surveyed backed the measure as an urgent need for stricter safeguards to protect children from harm linked to social media.
“We are not moving an inch from this decision. As I have already announced, we will need six to eight weeks to enforce the ban due to its technical requirements,” the government head stated during a year-end press conference.
“The pressure is mounting for stricter safeguards and protection from social media-linked harm. TikTok could well be working on measures and seeking for guarantees, but we can’t afford waiting longer, because it is high time for a strong response and this decision has found the backing of over 90% of the parents surveyed,” Rama said.
“This isn’t just about TikTok. It’s about drawing a line when it comes to the safety of our children. We must act decisively and without delay,” he stated
PM Rama also highlighted the project on installation of smart surveillance cameras to help detect and prevent violence and bullying in every educational facility across Albania.
He added that high safety and security measures will be enforced in every educational facility.
