Relations with Greece, Hasani: Government’s interest is to bring Albania closer to EU as soon as possible

TIRANA, December 27 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani said today that Albania’s relations with Greece have many vectors and we are treating them maximum attention and care.

During the press conference at the end of the year, Hasani said that, “In all this effort, what prevails is the interest of the Albanian government to bring Albania closer to the EU as soon as possible, without leaving behind what are the foundations of a good neighborly relationship”.

Therefore, the government has not only the commitment, but has found even the understanding of Greece.

He said that, “It is important that we stick to this commitment that we have had not only with our southern neighbors, but with all our EU neighbors, to achieve tangible results, like the opening of the two most political cluster in this process”.

Asked about his withdrawal from the OSCE chairman candidacy, Hasani said that the country’s interest is above his personal interest.

“Having the maximum support of over 75% of EU member states, I withdrew at the right moment to give way not only to the consensus for the new OSCE leadership, but also to important developments related to Albania’s strategic partnership, such as Turkey and Greece,” he said.

The minister also spoke about the issue of the country’s EU integration.

Hasani emphasized that the Foreign Ministry is working in two directions, “The technical one, led by the Chief Negotiator and the negotiating team that takes into consideration all the technical parameters of the negotiations, and the second direction is the political one, for which we are committed to preventing and taking care of obstacles that are not technical. We are making sure that these two points meet not only in 2027 but also after the opening of technical negotiations with the EU.”/r.e//a.f/p.s./
