Peleshi: Kosovo’s membership in NATO, a priority

TIRANA, Dec 20 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Niko Peleshi, the Chairman of the SP Parliamentary Group, stated on Friday that Albania will continue to advocate for Kosovo’s security.

In the joint plenary session of the two Parliaments in Pristina, Peleshi stated, “This joint session of our two parliaments comes in the follow-up to a very positive tradition established through the organization of joint government meetings and our parliamentary gatherings.”

“This second meeting is not only a symbolic gesture of excellent cooperation between our institutions, but also a clear expression of our unyielding national unity. The relationship between Albania and Kosovo is a model of cooperation based on brotherhood, shared values, and clear goals for the future, with both our strengths and weaknesses that we also share. We are alike even in our political temperament, as was evident here today,” emphasized Peleshi.

Peleshi emphasized that Albania and Kosovo remain united as brothers in a common home, with our country steadfastly supporting Kosovo’s aspirations for freedom, independence, and international integration.

“Kosovo and Albania are going down a common Euro-Atlantic path. We share the same destination, the EU. Albania eagerly awaits Kosovo’s membership in NATO, where Albania has been an ally for 15 years. In that space, we will not cease advocating for security of Kosovo, which remains our top priority in every NATO ministerial or leaders’ summit,” said Peleshi.

According to him, “there is no better moment to reaffirm our shared commitment to accelerating the European integration process and strengthening democracy and prosperity in our region.”

He remarked, “Parliamentary cooperation between our two nations has made great progress, particularly following the signing of the memorandum of understanding in 2022. This document has established a shared framework for aligning legislation, enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, and improving transparency for our citizens. The memorandum is the strongest testament to our dedication in translating our mutual aspirations into tangible actions. Seven intergovernmental meetings and 58 signed agreements serve as clear proof of the collaborative efforts that lead us, ranging from initiatives for free movement and economic integration to initiatives in education and culture.”

Peleshi emphasized that we are building a shared development model that serves all of our citizens.
