TIRANA, Dec 19 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Ina Zhupa, said on Thursday that 5.8 million square meters of land across the country have been allocated to strategic investors.
During the questions and answers session with Minister Mirela Kumbaro on the implementation of the law on protected areas, MP Ina Zhupa called out the new law passed in February, calling it “shameful” and clientelist. She argued that the law threatens the protection of areas crucial not only for Albania’s environment but also for its history, identity, and the health of its citizens.
The Democratic Party MP emphasized that, in favor of the concrete encroachment of protected areas, the government has decided, with the support of a local MP who is not known for advocating for the region, to extend the deadline for the law on strategic investments for the fifth time.
Zhupa criticized the government’s plan to extend the deadline for strategic investments, allowing developers to encroach on protected areas, including coastlines, rivers, and lakes, for beach resorts.
