TIRANA, Dec 11 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Wednesday that the Albanian Assembly is the institution that can bring all institutions together around the mission for the country’s swift integration into the EU. It is also the institution that can ensure that the citizens of the Republic of Albania, who are served by all these institutions, are guaranteed that no institution will fail them in their expectation to see Albania as an EU member.
“We have no time to lose or to wait for those with a different agenda, a different plan, who are not interested in membership, simply because they want to do it on their own. Referring to the purpose and the fundamental reason behind the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission, I must point out that in the 700 pages of its analysis, there is not a single mention of justice or the judiciary. Let me be clear: for Albania to join the EU, it must perform with the same speed, determination, and efficiency,” said Rama at the high-level meeting “Albania 2030 in the EU – The Path of Reforms.”
According to the Prime Minister, out of the 157 institutions of the Republic of Albania with specific responsibilities, 32 of which are involved in the negotiation process related to the “Fundamentals” cluster, none are subordinate to the government.
“The Government of the Republic of Albania cannot tell them why they haven’t done this. However, at the negotiation table, the EU does not negotiate with the government, but with Albania. The government has its role, but the question arises: Which institution in this Republic can bring everyone together around this mission and ensure that the citizens of the Republic of Albania, who are served by all these institutions, are guaranteed that no institution will fail them in their expectation to see Albania as an EU member? There is only one institution, and no other, and that is the Assembly of Albania, which, by its constitutional nature, is the only institution with the right and duty to call everyone together, even in its own process, to naturally hold them to account, pass resolutions, raise issues, make claims, and demand answers. This is the institution that can guarantee that the process is harmonized, transparent, and includes an accountability element for all institutions,” he stated.
Rama emphasized the need for coordination among institutions.
“We have no doubt that if we want the 855 measures pertaining to the rule of law, with 59% of the tasks falling into the scope of the judiciary and justice institutions, to be successfully implemented by the Republic of Albania, everyone agrees on the need to coordinate and align the activities of the Albanian state, ensuring our progress toward completing the negotiations is consistent,” he added. /j.p/sm/
