TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ – The Chairman of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group Gazment Bardhi branded the Prime Minister Edi Rama’s statement earlier on Thursday as “blackmail message against the Special Anticorruption and Anticrime Prosecution Structure (SPAK) to cease investigation into the “Xibraka” drug trafficking case.”
“Edi Rama’s statement was not a response to my demands for explanations, but it was rather e clear blackmail message to SPAK to cease the investigation into Olsi Rama’s role in Xibraka drug trafficking case, because a thorough investigation would shed light into the truth that would pose danger to Rama’s power, as he would be forced to give up politics,” DP lawmaker said in a post on the social media.
Bardhi recalled the fact that the government head attended a question and answer session in parliament he had demanded regarding the toxic waste issue.
Earlier today, PM Rama responded to Bardhi’s request for a Q&A in parliament regarding a controversial legal dispute with Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti, insisting he won’t appear until a separate investigation was resolved.
Opposition and Bardhi had demanded explanations about handling of the Becchetti case against Albania at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) that could force the government to pay millions to Becchetti.
In a social media post, Rama said he would attend “any Q&As Gazmend Bardhi wants, but only after SPAK finishes investigating the drug trafficker he claims is linked to my family.”
