TIRANA, November 25/ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku said that hard work is being done to have modern systems in weather forecasting in order to prevent damages.
Present at the event that took place today in Tirana, for the launch of the Program of Climate Resilient Urban Development in Albania, (ALBdapt) Balluku emphasized that, “Albania has not contributed to climate change, because we have a system that produces 100% renewable energy, we have an underdeveloped industry and the fact is that we have not contributed to the extreme climate change that we are seeing everywhere, but we also do not have the ability to protect our country in isolation. Albania is a non-contributor to climate change. But today, if neighboring Italy is regularly flooded, how will we save Albania? Of course, we are the most innocent of the whole group, but we will pay the bill like everyone else”, said Balluku.
She emphasized that, “After several blows that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy received due to climate change in the road situation, hydropower stations or other critical infrastructure, such as ports and airports, we set up a weather monitoring system that is carried out through Civil Aviation and which will help us take measures to prevent impacts from climate change”, said Balluku.
The “ALBdapt” program will support Albania in improving the hydrometeorology service, creating a modern early warning system and implementing adaptation measures to save lives.
“Present-day Albania has a great predictive, preventive and intervention capacity through satellites, which we have, but we need to use more. Also through the Ministry of Defense, it has one of the most innovative fleets of aerial monitoring, the “Bayraktar” drones which are not only for military protection, but also for the protection of citizens or the support of civil emergency operations”, said Balluku. /a.f/p.s./
