TIRANA, Nov 22 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday celebrated the Day of the Albanian Language Alphabet, regarded as the greatest unifying moment for Albanians.
It is the first time that November 22nd is celebrated as an official holiday, after the initiative followed up on discussions in the Diaspora Summit, which took place in Tirana last November.
Rama celebrated the Day of the Albanian Alphabet, while sharing an informative video about the values carried by the Albanian language as the living memory of the nation that connects generations.
The Day of the Albanian Alphabet was approved by the Assembly in February of this year. The Council of Ministers adopted a decision to amend the law on national holidays and memorial days, proposing to the Albanian Parliament the addition of the Day of the Alphabet as one of our national holidays.
This day commemorates the Congress of Manastir, which was held from November 14 to 22, 1908. According to the number and significance of its participants, the Congress of Manastir was the most important event for the Albanian people in the early 20th century. As a result of this work, Albania’s independence was declared on November 28, 1912.
