TIRANA, Nov 20 /ATA/ – Ilir Meta, leader of the opposition Freedom Party, on Wednesday called for peaceful protests after Albania’s Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime yesterday upheld a ruling to keep him in custody on charges of corruption and abuse of office.
In a letter released to the media by the Freedom Party’s Secretary General, Tedi Blushi, Meta urged members and supporters to stage peaceful regular protests outside the Special Anticrime and Anticorruption Prosecution Office (SPAK).
According to Meta, the protests aim to “expose SPAK’s scandalous manipulations with his case and denounce scandalous corruption affairs of Edi Rama that SPAK is not investigating.”
The court’s decision comes amid allegations of financial misconduct, corruption, money laundering and wealth concealment during Meta’s political career.
