CoE recognizes Albania’s progress in enforcing right to information, access to official documents

TIRANA, Nov 18 /ATA/ – The Council of Europe’s Access Info Group (AIG), an independent group of experts created to monitor parties’ compliance with the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents, also known as the Tromsø Convention, has endorsed a positive assessment of Albania’s progress in enforcing the provisions of this document.

The Access Info Group unveiled the baseline evaluation report on Albania at a meeting in Strasbourg on November 13-15.

The report evaluates the level of compliance with the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents and the law 119/20214 on the right to information as envisaged by the Tromsø Convention.

The AIG Report has found that Albania’s contemporary regulatory framework complies with the right to information as one of the citizens’ fundamental freedoms and rights.

The Law “On the Ratification of the Convention of the Council of Europe “On Access to Official Documents,” assigns the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection as Albania’s representative body in the Council of the Parties.
