TIRANA, Nov 3 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, also leader of the Socialist Party, stated Sunday that the ruling Socialists had dealt a fatal blow to a culture of impunity in the country, saying Albania is no longer a country ruled by a close caste of powerful individuals, who once stood above the law.
“Most importantly – and I am convinced that almost every Albanian agree with me on this – Albania is no longer a country of a caste of powerful people standing above the law,” the government head said in his remarks at a meeting with the Albanian community in Thessaloniki, Greece.
“The culture of impunity has received a deathblow, the first since the Albanian state was founded back in 1912, because it is the first time in history when individuals vested with political power or with links with political power, have been subjected to the law, just like everyone else,” PM Rama remarked.
The Premier underlined that individuals, both in the government and in opposition, are facing justice when found guilty on corruption charges or links with the organized crime. He stated that the new justice bodies have been liberated from any political influence or interference from the ruling party.
