Gonzato hands over Progress Report; Tabaku: Opposition has played its role in EU integration process

TIRANA, Oct 31 /ATA/ The European Union Ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, has submitted the EU Progress Report for Albania to Jorida Tabaku, the Democratic Party MP and chair of the National Council for European Integration.
In a social media post, Tabaku writes that she discussed with Ambassador Gonzato the Progress Report, which also reflects the genuine concerns of the opposition.
Referring to the Progress Report, Tabaku listed some of the concerns raised by the opposition.

“Parliament has fallen short of implementing a fully inclusive electoral reform in accordance with the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. The enforcement of Constitutional Court decisions, from the case of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs to the law on investigative commissions and the rules of procedure of the Assembly, for which the opposition deputies have been unjustly penalized. There are laws that run counter to the spirit of EU legislation, such as those regarding the Public Prosecutor’s Office, protected areas, strategic investments, and cannabis legislation,” Tabaku wrote.
The DP MP emphasizes that “the rule of law and media freedom are two issues that require special attention.”

“The undeniable role of the opposition in the integration process, as well as in the parliamentary space to exercise its check and monitoring functions, including the right to investigative commissions and all other parliamentary instruments. The independence of financial audit institutions, such as the State Audit Institution and the Bank of Albania, and their protection from political interference and pressure,” Tabaku wrote.
In concluding her statement, the DP MP emphasizes that despite the tense climate, the opposition has played its role in the integration process.
