TIRANA, October 31/ATA/ Albania is producing more and more pomegranate while there is a growing demand in the foreign markets for this fruit.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj highlighted in the social media the story of Perlat Myrtaj, in Levan, Fier, who cultivates pomegranates mainly for export.
“Perlati cultivates about 15 ha of pomegranates of the Wonderful One variety, which he takes care of with dedication and passion so that to produce a quality product for consumers and contribute to the local economy,” said Denaj.
The minister said that the production goes to the local and foreign markets, guaranteeing freshness and quality for everyone who chooses this healthy fruit rich in antioxidants.
In Albania, there is an old tradition of cultivating pomegranates, but until the 90s, their growth was modest and limited to a few roots. The pomegranate was considered more of a family garden tree than a mass market fruit. But, in recent years everything is changing.
Pomegranates are being cultivated more in the area of Berat, Fier, Përmet, Vau i Dejës, but also in Delvina or Elbasan. /a.f/p.s./
