TIRANA, Oct 18 /ATA/ The launch ceremony of the project “European Union for Good Governance” took place at the Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data. The event was attended by Commissioner Besnik Dervishi, representatives from the EU Delegation to Albania, and their experts.
The project aims to enhance the level of transparency in the activities of the Albanian public administration by using modern community standards and to further promote the fight against corruption.
The Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and the Protection of Personal Data is one of the beneficiaries under Component 4 of this project.
The implementation of this project is expected to strengthen the administrative and professional capacities not only of the institution’s staff but also of public authorities and stakeholders in implementing the updated legal framework in both areas.
The three components of the project include strengthening institutional capacities and coordinators for the right to information to effectively implement Law No. 45/2022 “On the Ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents” (Convention 205) and Law No. 33/2022 “On Open Data and the Reuse of Public Sector Information.”
The project also includes providing assistance to ensure the effective implementation of the modernized Council of Europe Convention “On the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data” (Convention 108+), which is incorporated into Albanian legislation with the approval of Law No. 49/2022.
The project also provides support for coordinators for the right to information and for central and local institutions, aiming to improve the handling of requests for information and ensure a more effective implementation of the law on the right to information.
The Office of the Commissioner emphasizes that EU assistance is crucial for consolidating institutional activities to ensure the practical exercise of rights by citizens, civil society organizations, and stakeholders, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability of public authorities.
This project is also a confirmation of the ongoing and effective cooperation between the European Union Delegation in Albania and the Office of the Commissioner, particularly within the context of the integration process, due to the significant role and contribution of the institution in this regard.
