TIRANA, Oct 7 /ATA/ – An anti-government protest in Albanian capital on Monday evening caused serious material damages as opposition supporters threw Molotov cocktails, flares, pyrotechnic items and hard objects at police, the Prime Minister’s office and key state institutions in Tirana.
Damages were caused mainly in front of the government building along the main Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard and other areas of Tirana where opposition supporters marched in a protest headed by the Democratic Party’s Secretary General Flamur Noka and the Chair of the DP Parliamentary Group Gazment Bardhi.
After hurling Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnic items at the Prime Minister’s office, protesters set two trees on fires. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but damages were significant.
Opposition supporters also clashed with police.
The crowd then marched towards other areas setting a bus station on fire and disrupting traffic as they kept throwing flares and other pyrotechnic items.
State Police said in a press statement that 10 police officers were injured.
