Rama: There has been no export of hazardous waste from Port of Durrës

TIRANA, September 12/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today in the Assembly that there has been no export of hazardous waste from the Port of Durrës.

During the interpellation requested by the Democratic Party on the transport of toxic waste from the Port of Durrës, Rama emphasized that first of all there should be argued whether there has been an export of hazardous waste.

The prime minister emphasized that according to the data made public in every statement and document submitted by private entities as part of the export procedures, it is crystal clear that the export of the goods in question is not an export of hazardous waste.

“According to the customs practice, there is attached the certificate of analysis of the goods from the laboratory of an EU country, which confirms the declaration of the subject. In both cases, the transport from Elbasan to Thailand via Durrës Port and the one from Kosovo to China via Durrës, the goods declared as oxides, iron hydroxides or zinc concentrate were transported from the port of Durrës to European ports with all the relevant documentation attached through the lines international container company with an indisputable reputation in the world of maritime transport”, said Rama.

The prime minister emphasized that the cargoes stayed and were temporarily stored in the EU countries, where no one prevented them and then they were allowed to follow their route normally.

“From the verifications of the logistics processes of these two cargoes, as well as of similar cargoes in the past, the goods with such classification are not considered as hazardous waste even in the European catalogs, on which the environmental and customs procedures in our country are based. The same applies from the point of view of port transport and maritime transport”, said Rama. /p.s./
