Malaj: We are working on a new scheme for higher pensions

TIRANA, September 4/ATA/ Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj stated today that by the end of the current year, it is expected that the debt level falls by 0.7% compared to 2023, bringing it to the level of 58.2%.

During a press conference, Malaj spoke about the positive performance of the economy during this 7-month period. And he announced the undertaking of a pension scheme reform, which, as he put it, needs a visible scheme that provides higher pensions for the retired people.

“The reform will focus on improvement of the revenue collection. Addressing the pension issues is a personal challenge, but the concern belongs to all of us, regardless of being of the left or right-wing. We are also working with the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation for the entire pension scheme, which is not in its best days. We need a visible scheme that provides higher pensions for people”, he said.

He also spoke about his challenges as Minister of Finance.

He said he will focus on improvement of the macroeconomic stability and follow prudent administration of the state budget and public debt. He said that his efforts will concentrate on improvement of revenue collection, and the allocation of public investments in those sectors that have the greatest contribution to the economy.

Speaking about revenue collection, the digitization, the inclusion of artificial intelligence, a project that is being worked on with Microsoft, will be an important factor.

“Budget expenditures will be directed and channeled to where there are social needs, without losing focus on investments in priority sectors,” stated Malaj. /p.s./
