TIRANA, Aug 26 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, stated on Monday that the Ambassadors’ Conference “Tirana Diplo 2024” revives a useful tradition for the Albanian diplomacy.
In his speech at the conference with the participation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, ambassadors, heads of consular posts, as well as personalities of Albania and foreign states, Minister Hasani stressed that “the new law of the Foreign Service is intended to invigorate our diplomacy”.
Hasan said that we will soon have a new law on foreign service. This law is not designed simply to draft something, but to serve the new spirit and dynamics of diplomatic activity across every dimension, at home and abroad, in bilateral and multilateral relations with other international organisations. Above all, the law will not be the refuge for the incompetent and mediocre, but will support and stimulate everyone who loves this profession and has devoted himself to it, the law will open the doors of foreign service to all Albanians working in international organizations, recognizing their merits, work and contributions.
“Our diplomacy is a vibrant, multidimensional body, designed towards the future, which operates according to the principle of communicating vessels not only with other segments of government and state, but also of the entire society, a team capable of rising up the complex challenges of the world and to offer perspectives. Why is the Conference of Ambassadors held today after eight years? The idea was to revive a useful tradition and build on experience to exchange thoughts and interact among the limbs of the same organism, and to construct a necessary synergy between them. Seen as a moment of reflection and track records of collective work, the Conference should serve as an effective instrument on what more needs to be done and, more importantly, what needs to be done better today and in the days ahead. And this conference will be an annual meeting and we will not wait for years to remember it as a vision” stressed Hasani.
Hasan also touched on recent achievements in diplomacy.
Albania’s foreign policy has seen significant growth like never before: the UN Security Council, the OSCE Chairmanship, the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the summit of the Southeast European countries – Ukraine, the Presidency of the Berlin Process, and a long series of regional initiatives; The list will be extended, so I’ll stop here. Of course, these achievements have not only given a new profile to the image of the country in the world, but have made diplomacy increasingly proactive, which makes us feel proud in our work and activity, but on the other hand, even more responsible, more aware and demanding of ourselves. This means that we should not slow down the pace of work, much less to come to a standstill.”
“This year, Hasan continued, I counted on you and your commitment to serving our country.
“Despite adverse winds and unexpected events we face sometimes, I can say that we have taken real action and are building useful standards for collective action,” he said.
Secondly, Hasani said, what I would like to highlight in respect of the work done in the last few years is the effective multilateralism which, although a small country, we have known to protect it and become actors.
“However, that is not enough. The expectations are high and your commitment to serving our country and our citizens must exceed them. Our diplomacy is already the activity of people of different backgrounds, whose abilities are shaped outside the affiliation of a single body. So, given the experience and skills of each of you, from certain professions, we expect you to better incorporate them into our foreign service, thus enabling us to have a more agile, skilled and stronger diplomacy. It is also important to combine the specific skills of the diplomat’s profession with specialized knowledge in other fields, technology and social media, and where the Foreign Ministry will need to provide inter-ministerial coordination by implementing effective synergies and knowledge, but clearly taking the lead.
