Non-performing loans fell to 4.7% in June

TIRANA, Aug 9 /ATA/ The ratio of non-performing loans decreased in June this year.

According to the Bank of Albania, this indicator decreased to 4.7%, from 4.81% that was a month ago in May.

The improvement of credit quality for the economy is being underpinned by the positive cycle that the Albanian economy is pursuing with a high growth of the real estate sectors and services in tourism. But the appreciation of the lek is estimated to have had a significant positive impact on the exchange rate.

The Bank of Albania informs that the decrease in the ratio of non-performing loans is also influenced by the good performance of lending to the economy and the accelerated expansion of the loan portfolio for the economy.

“The rate of credit growth has been increasing, registering a level of 14.6% in June. Credit expansion continues to be supported – to the greatest extent – by the rapid growth of the loan portfolio in lek, reflecting the low level of interest rates.

Likewise, credit expansion continues to be broad based, covering the needs of businesses and families, both for investment and for consumption and working capital.

At the same time, the loan portfolio continues to have a good quality, as evidenced by the low levels of the nonperforming loan indicator”, according to the latest BoA statement.
