Ethnographic Museum of Kruja is restored, Gonxhja: Cultural heritage supports economy

TIRANA, July 23/ATA/ Following restoration works financed by the European Union, through the EU4Culture program, the Ethnographic Museum of Kruja opened its doors to the public.

Attending the inauguration event, there were Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja, ambassador of the European Union Silvio Gonzato and the representative of UNOPS Freya von Groote.

According to Minister Gonxhja, the cultural heritage supports the economy. The data so far show that cultural tourism has recorded more growth than the tourism sector as a whole.

Official figures show that the number of visitors to cultural institutions has increased by 70% across the country, while the number of visitors to the Kruja Museum Center has increased by 75,000, or 110% more compared to the first 6 months of 2023.

Gonxhja said that this transformation started with the restoration of the bazaar, continued with the museum complex and further with the complete renovation of the Ethnographic Museum of Kruja.

This renovation makes this museum a worthy epilogue of the walk that starts from the bazaar, continues with the castle, the Gjergj Kastrioti Museum, the guesthouses, etc.

Housed in the historic residence of the Toptani family, built in 1764, this museum presents Albania’s rich cultural heritage. With over 3,000 artefacts on display, visitors can explore the traditional ways of life of Albanians and their customs over the centuries. /p.s./
