TIRANA, July 13 /ATA/ – Data from the Operational Centre of Albania’s National Agency of Civil Emergencies show that nine fires have been reported in the last 24 hours, with seven of them already extinguished and two fires remaining active.

The Minister of Defence Niko Peleshi said Saturday that work continues to extinguish fires in at least two separate locations.

Peleshi said that firefighters, military personnel and local staff of various municipalities are currently focusing efforts to contain the blazes in the village of Kakodhiq, Delvine Municipality, southern Albania.

According to him, scores of firefighters of Delvine Municipality, as well as military personnel are battling the fires on the ground.

He said that efforts are also underway to put out a forest fire near the Lura lakes in the villages of Gurë – Lurë, in north-eastern Municipality of Diber.

Extremely dry and windy conditions over the last few days have caused multiple fires, mostly in Albania’s south.
