TIRANA, July 10 /ATA/ – The Mayor of the northwestern municipality of Lezha, Pjerin Ndreu, was summoned on Wednesday to the office of Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution Structures (SPAK).
In a statement to reporters after walking out of SPAK office, Mayor Ndreu said that he had been summoned by prosecutors as a person under investigation.
“I was summoned to appear before prosecutors as person under investigation on abuse of office charges. A lawsuit has been filed politically and it has nothing to do with corruption or violation of equality in public tenders,” Ndreu told reporters.
“Filing abuse of office charges would imply an economic damage to the state, but this is not the case. I don’t think that charges will be raised against me, but, if so, I will be here to face justice,” Ndreu stated, denying any wrongdoing.
He voiced support for SPAK and expressed readiness to appear before prosecutors to clarify on his actions.
