TIRANË, 10 qershor /ATSH/ The growth rate of bank credit continued to accelerate during the months of April – May, registering an average level of about 14%, the Bank of Albania announced.
According to BoA, the credit expansion largely reflects the rapid growth of loans in Lek, whose portfolio recorded an annual growth of 22% in May.
Referring to the statistics, this performance has reflected both the relatively low interest rates of loan in Lek, which have increased the demand for this segment, as well as a greater care of Albanian businesses and families in terms of reducing unnecessary exposure to risk of the exchange rate.
The Central Bank notes that this trend has led to a further increase in the share of the loan portfolio in lek, increasing the effectiveness of the monetary policy and strengthening the country’s financial stability.
In parallel with it, BoA emphasizes, credit for the private sector also shows some other positive development trends: it has an increased inclination towards financing business investments, as well as continues to maintain a good quality of the portfolio, as evidenced by historically low levels of the NPL indicator.
“These positive developments are expected to continue in the future”, declares BoA.
