Right to information, OECD recognizes work of Commissioner’s Office

TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ The Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data was invited by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to participate in the activity “Increasing access to information in Jordan: the role of public institutions in the effective implementation of the new regulatory framework.”

The OECD appreciated the Albanian authority for its experience and high standards in the field of the right to information and therefore was selected together with the Spanish authority for the right to information, to share experience and best practices in this field.

The event was organized by the OECD and the Ministry of Culture and the Information Council of Jordan. In attendance were over 80 local authorities with over 100 high-level representatives from central institutions such as ministries and other key institutions in the country.
Jordan was the first country to pass a law on the right to information in the Middle East and North Africa region, and since April 2024 it has improved it even more.

The Commissioner’s Office presented an overview of the legal framework for the right to information, monitoring and supervisory functions of the authority, the instrument of the transparency program within the proactive transparency of public sector bodies, as well as the awareness-raising activity with focus on cooperation with civil society and stakeholders.
Participation in this activity is proof of the increasing capacities of the Office, but also of the recognition by international organizations such as the OECD, considering the Commissioner’s Office as one of the authorities that has established one of the best international practices in the field of the right to information to further consolidate the culture of transparency for responsible public institutions.
