With visa liberalization in place, Serbs line up to get Kosovo documents

PRISHTINA, July 7 /ATA/ – The visa-free travel to the Schengen zone already enacted since January this year has significantly raised interest among Serbs in the northern Kosovo to obtain documents issued by Prishtina authorities.

In the first half of 2024 alone, around 270,000 citizens have applied for biometric passports, whereas 130,000 more have filed applications for ID card. Kosovo’s Serb citizens are also showing greater interest in obtaining other important documents issued by Prishtina.

Kosovo Police in north said a few days ago that nearly two thousand residents from four northern municipalities in Kosovo had applied to convert their illegal Serbian-issued driver’s licenses into official RKS licenses.

The Director of the Civil Registration Agency Blerim Camaj told an interview with the news agency KosovaPress that the highest influx of local residents applying for Kosovo documents was registered in the first three months of this year in particular,

Camaj underlined that Kosovo’s Serbs are showing increasing interest in obtaining Kosovo documents following the visa-free regime since beginning of this year.
