TIRANA, July 6 /ATA/ The Federation of Opposition Parties, in a statement, says that the constitutional order is jeopardized by yesterday’s act of the CEC and President of the Republic, which decreed that by byelection in Himara will be held on August 4.
The Federation of Opposition Parties states that this government’s violation of the law, and many others like it, must be condemned, therefore Albanian citizens should come together in the July 11 protest.
“Yesterday, the ruling party put an end to any illusion that the Constitution of Albania is the fundamental document of the state. Prime Minister Rama, after taking him hostage, through a hasty and unlawful process 14 months ago, after dragging him through the courtrooms, yesterday, in breach of the law and the Constitution, stripped the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, of the mandate and announced the election for his replacement. The State Commissioner of Elections, in an emergency session, dismissed Beleri, paving the way for President of the Republic, with the same urgency, decreed the election in Himara on August 4. Edi Rama is already unhindered in his plan for the mayor of Himara to be appointed rather than elected. Only one of his appointees gives him a free rein to extend the government’s “strategic investors” even to the still unspoiled coast of Himara”, the statement further states.
According to the Federation of Opposition Parties, there is no separation or check and balance in Albania, but only Rama overreaching his powers.
