TIRANA, July 4 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, during the parliamentary session, which discussed the annual report of the CEC, said that the Census figures published by INSTAT showed another Albania outside our Albania and that the vote of the diaspora should be the highlight.
Tabaku deliberated on the diaspora vote, asking the Electoral Reform Commission to offer the diaspora the opportunity to cast the ballot. She reminded Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri that none of the Socialist MPs took upon themselves to guarantee the vote of the diaspora, but the Democratic MPs who made the case for their right to vote through a legal proposal.
“It is unfortunate that we treat the vote of the diaspora as a political commodity. Today, officially according to INSTAT data, unfortunately Albania is smaller inside than outside the territory. Although those data could be a big question mark, they themselves tell you that there are 2.4 million Albanians inside the territory, less officially than those who live outside. There is no greater battle for the opposition than the vote of the diaspora”, said Tabaku.
“It’s been more than two years since we started a debate regarding the vote of the diaspora. If you do not agree with a word of what Mr. Gjiknuri, the only word we all agree on is “that there is no interested party but the opposition in terms of the diaspora’s vote”. The opposition is the first party that pushed this process and for this reason, on behalf of the opposition, we started a discussion upon the initiative of the CEC, with different groups of the diaspora, with young people who have emigrated, but at the same time with activists who submitted a proposal to the parliament. The SP did not undertake to take it forward as a legal initiative”, stated Tabaku, while reminding the socialist majority that they did not have and do not intend to push the vote for the diaspora.
